RACE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR MAX MOORE MEMORIAL TREEHOUSE
“Treehouse 10k” to be held on the Saranac River Trail in the City of Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y – The City of Plattsburgh Recreation Department and the Saranac River Trail committee will be hosting a 5K and 10K race to be held on Saturday May 11, 2013 at 9am. All proceeds raised will go toward the building of the Max Moore Memorial Treehouse that will be erected near Pine Street.
“This is the first of a number of upcoming fundraising events to make progress on providing a universally accessible treehouse for children on the Saranac River Trail,” said Ashley Cousens, Saranac River Trail Committee Treehouse Coordinator. “We encourage runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to come out, enjoy some time on the Saranac River Trail and raise money for such a worthy cause.”
The route begins on Durkee Street and will lead to the Saranac River Trail. Participants will run the full length of the trail and will continue up to the SUNY Plattsburgh field house where they will take a lap around the Fieldhouse and head back to the starting point on Durkee Street for the 10K portion of the race. For the 5K portion, participants will follow the same route but will turn around at Kent Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh Campus. On the day of the race, Check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the race will commence at 9 a.m.
Participants have the option of choosing either to participate in the 5K or the 10K and can walk or run in the race. All participants will receive a race hat and have access to the after-party held at the finish line.
“As the first event of its kind and one of only a few 10k races in the region, The Treehouse 10k and 5k Run/Walk will be a great event to hold on the Saranac River Trail,” said Steve Peters, Superintendent of Recreation. “We look forward to providing a great event and to supporting such a worthy cause.”
The registration fee will be $20 for the 5k and $25 for the 10k and can only be done online at www.plattsburghrecreation.com. Registration will include a Treehouse race hat, goody bag, after-party access and bib number. The deadline for race entry is May 1, 2013. Registration will continue up until the day of the event, but hats and goody bags cannot be guaranteed for those registering after May 1.
